Acupuncture for Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Osteoarthritis commonly affects the hands, feet, spine and weight bearing joints such as the hips and knees.

Acupuncture treatments were done twice weekly for 8 weeks. Acupuncture treatment improved physical function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.

Does acupuncture treatment have immediate effects on gait patterns of patients with knee osteoarthritis?

This study on twenty patients with knee osteoarthritis showed reduced pain as measured by visual analog scales and improved gait performance after acupuncture treatment.
Gait analysis may be useful in assessing the effect of acupuncture treatment in musculoskeletal diseases.
